In a musical performance, a rider is a set of requests or demands that a performer will set as criteria for performance.

Rider refers to the little extras a band receives from the promoter at a performance, usually in their dressing room. One of the most important things to be covered are the specifics (Brand, Model and Number) on all required sound, lighting and staff requirements. Typical riders include things like food and beverages, or a pre-arranged amount of money that the promoter will provide to a band to buy themselves a meal and some drinks. If meals are agreed to be covered, the rider should also include information about special dietary requirements or preferences of the band. The rider will usually contain specific information, such as "the promoter will provide four hot vegetarian meals and assorted beverages."
